Entry criteria

There are many ways you can gain entry into a nursing degree through Western Sydney University Online. Match your past with your future and start your journey to become a registered nurse.

The Bachelor of Nursing with Western Sydney University Online has limited places, so along with your entry criteria we ask that you provide a statement of intent as a means of us assessing your motivations and suitability to study Nursing.

Keep your answers concise, but this is your chance to tell us about you and why you should be offered one of the limited spaces available. Around 1 page will suffice.

  • Why Nursing? – Discuss your reasons for pursuing the degree, long term goals and commitment to caring for others.
  • Online Study is a big commitment. How will you stay motivated to study, particularly in an online environment?
  • Discuss any personal traits and individual characteristics that make you an outstanding applicant.

On application students for preregistration nursing and midwifery programs need to sign a declaration indicating:

  • English is your primary language and
  • You have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12 or
  • You hold current registration as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), Registered Nurse (RN) or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or
  • You need to complete an approved English Language Test.

The table below will give you an overview of your pathways to applying. You only need to fulfill one of the criteria to be able to apply for our nursing degree.

All students must meet the English proficiency criteria. This can be met with proof of studying 5 years at secondary school level or above in Australia, or appropriate English test.

Please be aware that this information is indicative only and can change.
